Al D'amato
After successfully graduating from Chaminade High School, future Senator Al D’Amato headed upstate to Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. He received his B.S. in Business and graduated in 1959. Upon graduation he entered Syracuse’s distinguished Law School. He received his J.D. in 1961 and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1962. It took him three years to find success in his future calling: Politics.In 1965 Al Damato was elected to the Nassau County Public Administrator’s position. The Syracuse alumnus used this office as a springboard for his political career. In 1969 after three years of service for Nassau County, he was elected as the Town of Hempstead Tax Receiver. This position lasted two years and was successfully followed up by a six year stint as the Hempstead Town Supervisor. The next four years were spent as the Presiding Supervisor. In 1981, Alphonse D’Amato left the safety and security of Hempstead and Nassau in exchange for a bid as a United States Senator.
Although he was an enormous underdog, D’Amato managed to upset the incumbent and find access to the office of U.S. Senator that would last three terms until 1999. For 34 years Senator Al D’Amato served the public. After his defeat in 1999 he founded Park Strategies, a business consulting firm. Coupled with his part-time duties as a columnist for George Magazine and his regular contributions to Fox News, Al Damato is far from a bored man.
